For a film that spent years in development, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still finding new records. The Marvel and Sony sequel climbed to #1 on the Apple TV store in the United States on its digital debut, October 6, extending the momentum of the biggest theatrical run of 2026.
A $2.5B theatrical giant starts its streaming run
The film opened in cinemas on July 29, 2026, and became the highest-grossing release of the year with a reported $2.5 billion globally. That heat has transferred quickly: the movie is now the top title on Apple TV in the US and in more than a dozen other countries.
The story picks up from the bold reset of No Way Home, where Doctor Strange’s spell made the world forget Peter Parker. Brand New Day follows Tom Holland’s hero as he rebuilds his life alone, while his powers change in unexpected ways.
Where it is leading the VOD charts
- #1 on Apple TV: US, Italy, Costa Rica, Japan, South Africa, Bolivia, Spain, Ghana, Ukraine, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands, Salvador and England.
- #2: Bahrain, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Nicaragua and Saudi Arabia.
- #3: Latvia, the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Mexico, Lebanon, Hungary and Brazil.
Why it matters before Avengers: Doomsday
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film does more than close a chapter for Spider-Man. It introduces Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, planting a major X-Men figure inside the MCU ahead of the franchise’s mutant era.
With Avengers: Doomsday arriving this December, the VOD release is the fastest way for audiences to catch up. If you missed the big screen run, or want one more look before the crossover event, the digital version is now the simplest entry point.
One more theatrical lap, then the shelf
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are also giving the film another big-screen push with an extended cut that includes footage not in the original version. That re-release may restore Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple to the story, alongside Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, who returned in The Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney+ earlier this year.
For collectors, the home media edition lands on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, December 15, just days before Avengers: Doomsday opens. Sony and Marvel have not yet confirmed whether Tom Holland will appear in the remaining Phase 6 films, or when Spider-Man 5 will be announced.
