Rajinikanth’s Dharman may be about to trade its festival date for a quieter one. Reports from Valai Pechu and Movies Singapore suggest the film, initially expected during Pongal 2027, could now arrive on April 30, 2027. The reason: Kamal Haasan’s Indian 3 is reportedly moving towards the same Pongal corridor.
Neither date has been confirmed officially, so this is still a scheduling signal rather than a fixed plan. But it is a useful one for anyone already making their 2027 movie calendar.
The clash that may not happen
In Tamil cinema, Pongal is one of the biggest release windows of the year, and two star vehicles colliding on the same date would split screens, premium formats and the opening-weekend conversation. A reported move to April 30 would give Dharman room to run without asking audiences to choose between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on the same day.
Here is what is being reported:
- Dharman was initially expected in cinemas for Pongal 2027.
- Indian 3 is reportedly being readied for the same festive window.
- Dharman could now open on April 30, 2027 instead.
One wrinkle makes this less like a rivalry and more like calendar management: Kamal Haasan co-produces Dharman under his banner, and he leads Indian 3 as Senapathy. If the reports are accurate, the same table is effectively clearing its own traffic.
Where Indian 3 stands
Indian 3 is being planned as a direct continuation of Indian 2, with portions of both films shot simultaneously. Reports say post-production is already complete on the material captured alongside the second film, while roughly 15 days of shooting remain for new visuals. The team is said to be working towards finishing that schedule in time for a possible festive release.
The sequel is expected to explore Senapathy’s past and introduce his father, Veerasekaran Balram, with Kamal Haasan playing the character in a period setting. The shadow here is Indian 2 itself: its mixed critical and commercial response left some doubt around the third chapter.
What Dharman has shown so far
Dharman presents Rajinikanth as a doctor who takes on criminals. The title poster placed him inside an operation theatre, holding a scalpel and standing over what appeared to be a slain rowdy-sheeter. It is an unusually clinical image for a star film, and it suggests the action will come with a sharper procedural edge.
The cast is still coming into focus. Ram Pothineni is speculated to play the main antagonist, while Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu and Raashii Khanna are also expected in important roles.
For now, the practical takeaway is simple: keep both dates in pencil. Dharman has a reported new slot, not a confirmed one, and Indian 3 still has shooting to complete before it can own Pongal.
