A globally watched cultural exchange
The special Ramayana event in Mumbai drew an unusually wide audience before a word was spoken, because MrBeast was on stage. He was joined by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Ravie Dubey, producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari.
The gathering did not begin smoothly. It started more than three hours late, and Ravie Dubey apologised to the media for the delay.
How the Jai Shri Ram moment happened
Some members of the press began chanting “Jai Shri Ram, MrBeast.” Unsure of how to respond, MrBeast turned to Ranbir Kapoor, who quickly cued him. MrBeast broke into a smile and said the words back to loud cheers.
“Lord Rama is someone who never tried to be a hero. He’s known as ‘Maryada Purushottam’, which symbolizes a righteous man.”
Ranbir explained to MrBeast, whom he asked if he could call Jimmy, that Rama is deeply etched in Indian memory from childhood, that he was born a prince, and that he gave up everything for his father’s promise. He described Dharma as duty and said there may be no direct Western equivalent.
The moment worked because it was not just a greeting. It was a compact cultural explainer with MrBeast’s reaction as the centrepiece.
The Odyssey connection and an unexpected collaboration
Namit Malhotra walked MrBeast through Sita’s swayamvar, where Lord Rama wins the bow challenge. He compared it with the recently released The Odyssey, which features a similar bow-and-arrow sequence. It is an accessible reference point for viewers who know one epic but not the other.
Malhotra also disclosed that he and MrBeast are working together on The Angry Birds Movie 3, with MrBeast as one of the voice actors. The YouTuber replied, “I learned today that we are actually working together!”
Why this matters for Ramayana Part I
The stage gave the film a global conversion engine: a creator with 517 million subscribers, an emotional viral clip, and a simple entry point into the Ramayana.
- Ranbir Kapoor taught MrBeast to say Jai Shri Ram.
- He framed Lord Rama as Maryada Purushottam and Dharma as duty.
- Namit Malhotra linked the swayamvar bow challenge to The Odyssey.
- The event ran over three hours late; Ravie Dubey apologised to the press.
For the film, the goal seems clear: position Ramayana as both a national story and a global epic.
