Prime Video has assembled a cast that should put this untitled Hansal Mehta series straight onto the watchlist. Filming is now underway on the new original, with Sunny Kaushal, Bipasha Basu and Vishal Jethwa leading a small-town crime drama.
An honest cop in a town on the edge
The story is set in an unnamed small town that is on its way to becoming the continent’s heroin capital. Kaushal plays an incorruptible police officer caught between powerful forces inside and outside the system, forced to protect his integrity while his sense of right and wrong keeps getting tested.
Basu and Jethwa are also part of the ensemble, though the makers have not yet revealed what roles they are playing. Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker are writing the series, and it is produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under the Almighty Motion Pictures Productions banner.
Why this set-up matters
Mehta has become one of Indian streaming’s most reliable names for stories that put individual conscience under institutional pressure. Casting Kaushal as a police officer who refuses to bend gives the series a clear moral thread, while Basu and Jethwa bring screen presence to the supporting ensemble. This does not read as a routine cop show; it reads as a character test in a town that is being eaten by the drug trade.
For Prime Video, the untitled series also extends its slate of Hindi originals with a creator whose streaming work has repeatedly drawn adult viewers to crime, corruption and moral grey areas. That is a useful signpost: the announcement is a production start, not a release announcement, so first-look and casting details should trickle out in the coming months.
The production house announced the start with a note that called it “a story yet to be titled, but a dream already taking shape” under Mehta, and said the ensemble promised an “extraordinary” journey.
What we know so far
- Filming: Underway.
- Cast: Sunny Kaushal, Bipasha Basu, Vishal Jethwa.
- Story: A small town becoming the continent’s heroin capital; an honest cop under pressure.
- Title and release date: Still to be announced.
The frame this sets
The premise is not a whodunit. It frames crime as a test of character: the town is becoming a heroin hub because pressure is constant, and Kaushal’s cop is described as incorruptible, which pushes the drama toward what staying honest costs when the system pushes back from both sides.
Until the title and release date drop, keep this on your OTT watchlist. If you want a sense of the tone, revisit Mehta’s earlier work in the meantime.
