The filmography page lists 32 films in all, and 7 films in the last decade, but only 8 carry budget and gross figures in the table above. As of 04 October 2026, those 8 reported films total 2,115.6 crore in gross. The record: 4 hits — of which 3 are blockbusters — plus 2 average verdicts and 2 flops. That is a 50% hit rate and an average multiple of 2.43.
What the numbers say
The average multiple is the defining line. At 2.43, a Hrithik Roshan film in this sample has returned roughly two and a half times its reported budget. That is a healthy but not invincible number. Three blockbusters pull the average up; two flops pull it down. The sample is narrow because Wikipedia carries no figures for many of his other appearances. On the available evidence, he is a credible multiplier whose hits can be very big, but the misses are expensive when they arrive.
The hits and the misses
War (2019) is the biggest reported grosser: 475.62 crore against a 170 crore budget, a 2.8 multiple and a blockbuster verdict. The best return is not the biggest film. Kaabil (2017) earned 208.14 crore on a 35 crore budget, a 5.95 multiple, also a blockbuster. The weakest return is War 2 (2025), the most expensive entry in the table at 300 crore. It grossed 303.22 crore, a 1.01 multiple and a flop verdict. Between Kaabil’s 5.95 and War 2’s 1.01 sits the entire range of his commercial risk.
The trend
The last five entries in the table above — Super 30, War, Vikram Vedha, Fighter and War 2 — average a 2.0 multiple. The five entries before them — Bang Bang!, Mohenjo Daro, Kaabil, Super 30 and War — average 3.13. The decline is not only about War 2’s near-flat return. Vikram Vedha (1.35) and Fighter (1.38) also returned little more than their budgets, while the earlier group contained Kaabil at 5.95 and Super 30 at 3.48. The recent group has no multiple close to that ceiling.
What it means for his next film and for the industry
For Hrithik Roshan, the next film has to be judged on cost, not only cast. A 50% hit rate and a 2.43 average multiple prove he can deliver; War 2 proves that a 300 crore budget leaves no cushion when the film does not break out. For the industry, this is a warning about scale. A 2.43 average multiple is respectable when budgets are lean, but the recent five at 2.0 are operating at much bigger budget levels. The star is not the main problem; the economics around him have become less forgiving.
