Janhvi Kapoor has refused to let a morphed AI clip pass as just another piece of internet noise. The actor took to Instagram after a fabricated video, made using her appearance in the Devara Part 1 song “Chuttumalle,” began circulating, and she tied it directly to consent and the everyday safety calculations women make.
What Janhvi said
She described the creation and circulation of the video as a “criminal misuse of technology” that is “deeply violating, bordering on sexual assault.” The line is blunt, and she placed it within a pattern: “Almost every woman in my industry has faced some version of this, and women everywhere are increasingly being subjected to it.”
Her central point was that consent should not be treated as a complicated idea. Even if a woman says yes five days in a row, a no on the sixth still counts. What she wears, how she moves on screen, and what she is comfortable with do not give anyone permission to fabricate or circulate altered images of her body.
Why it matters for the audience
For fans, the episode is a reminder that a song we celebrate can be turned into a tool of violation. Janhvi argued that this goes beyond a single video and sits inside the larger reality of being a woman: the gaze, the judgement and the constant negotiation for safety. That threat, she wrote, has now moved into the digital sphere before the physical fear has been adequately addressed.
There is a useful framework here. A deepfake or morphed clip is not simply “fake content” to be debunked; it is a boundary violation. The harm is in the non-consensual use of someone’s image, not only in whether viewers are fooled.
Who stood with her
Janhvi thanked her Devara co-star NTR Jr for taking a strong stand, and also named Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda and Khushbu Sundar for amplifying the call. Her emphasis was wider: the answer cannot only be “protect your daughter.” Change requires undoing the conditioning that makes people feel entitled to cross someone else’s boundaries.
What fans can do
If the clip appears in your feed, treat it as harm rather than content.
- Do not save or share the video; every repost extends its reach.
- Report it on the platform where you see it.
- Share Janhvi’s statement instead of the image.
- Keep the conversation on consent and platform responsibility, not the clip itself.
