I have watched the new first look from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War a few times now, and the thing I keep returning to is not a plot detail. It is a feeling. Bhansali has finally revealed Ranbir Kapoor’s avatar, completing the leading trio with Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, and the film is now locked for a worldwide theatrical release on January 21, 2027 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
What the first look promises
This first look is a mood piece. It promises scale, texture and a leading man framed like a storm gathering. The poster and the background music are unmistakably Bhansali: detailed production design, a grand presentation and old-school star power. The makers have not given away much, but they have given the film a tagline fans will repeat.
“Woh rutba, woh raub, woh junoon!”
That line does the heavy lifting. It suggests Ranbir is stepping into a character with stature, danger and obsession, even before the film explains who he actually is.
What the first look holds back
It deliberately holds back nearly everything else. No Alia in the frame, no Vicky, no dialogue from the film and no clear sense of where or when this is set. That feels like the right call for a Bhansali romance at this stage: sell the emotion before the plot. There is also chatter that the full teaser may still be a while, so this first look has to carry the conversation for now.
The one moment everyone will talk about
The line is already the moment. “Woh rutba, woh raub, woh junoon!” turns a poster into a promise. It tells you Ranbir is playing another distinct screen appearance, while Bhansali is returning to the romance space with full theatrical ambition. Expect that line to be captioned, quoted and dissected until the next asset drops.
Where Love & War sits
For Ranbir, this lands in a stretch where every choice feels deliberately different. After the brute force of Animal and the mythological weight of Ramayana, Love & War puts him back inside an intense romantic triangle with Alia and Vicky. For Bhansali Productions, it is a multilingual, big-canvas original built around three proven leads, and it has been given a long runway to January 2027.
Verdict
I will not pretend one poster can tell me the screenplay is great. But as a fan, this first look gave me exactly what I wanted: a reason to care about the date. If Bhansali brings the same raub to the writing that he has brought to the reveal, Love & War looks worth the ticket.
