Pooja Meri Jaan (2026): the trailer. Video: Zee 5 on YouTube. Shown for review.

I went into the Pooja Meri Jaan teaser expecting a slick romantic thriller. I came out feeling like I had watched a question mark tighten around someone’s life. That is exactly the right energy for a film that has been waiting nearly four years to be seen.

What it is

Directed by Navjot Gulati and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, Pooja Meri Jaan stars Mrunal Thakur as Pooja and Huma Qureshi as Sana, with Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz in prominent roles. The CBFC has given it an A rating, and the theatrical cut runs 1 hour, 57 minutes and 32 seconds. It is scheduled to release on October 2, 2026.

What the trailer promises

It promises a psychological thriller built on rejection, obsession and consent. Pooja turns down a close friend’s romantic advance, and that decision becomes the start of a disturbing chain of events. The teaser keeps shifting perspective between Pooja, the people around her, and the lawyer Sana, who is trying to separate facts from conflicting accounts. It gives us mood, moral ambiguity and one central question: whose version of events should we believe?

What it holds back

It withholds the actual truth. The trailer deliberately avoids easy answers, and that restraint is the most confident thing about it. Mrunal has said the role required her to hold back answers the audience is meant to discover for themselves, and you can feel that in the way the teaser refuses to make Pooja either a victim or a suspect.

The one moment fans will fixate on

For me, it is the shift from a polite rejection to a full-blown case. The film seems to turn a personal no into a public investigation, and that is the kind of uncomfortable pivot Bollywood thrillers rarely commit to on this scale.

Where this sits

For Mrunal, this is the layered, emotionally shaded part she has been asking for, a chance to carry the film’s mystery from the inside out. For Huma, it is another reminder that she makes authority feel complicated; Sana is not just a lawyer moving the plot, but someone whose job is to doubt every story she hears. For Maddock Films, known more recently for its horror-comedy universe, this looks like a grittier, dialogue-driven swing.

Honest verdict

On trailer evidence alone, yes, Pooja Meri Jaan looks worth the ticket. The long delay is a genuine worry, and I would love the film to be as disciplined as its teaser. But if the final cut holds this nerve, we are in for a tense, talky, properly adult Bollywood thriller that trusts us not to be spoon-fed the truth.
