I went into the Titans trailer hoping for exactly one thing: the old Jayasurya-Vinayakan spark. The cut wastes no time promising it. This is not a self-serious fantasy epic puffing itself up; it is a film that knows its two leads are the event, and it frames them like a collision waiting to happen.
What Titans is
Titans is a Malayalam fantasy comedy directed by Prince Joy, the filmmaker behind Anugraheethan Antony, and written by James Sebastian, who co-wrote Janamaithri. Jayasurya and Vinayakan lead, with Suresh Krishna, Indrans, Manikandan R Achari, rapper Baby Jean, social media creator Nihal Nizam and a crop of newcomers in support. Vishnu Sharma is the cinematographer, Shameer Muhammed edits and Dawn Vincent scores. After moving from October 1, the film now hits theatres on October 22.
What the trailer promises, and what it holds back
The promise is raw, mass-action energy with a comic tilt. The cut sells the contrast between Jayasurya’s live-wire reactions and Vinayakan’s heavy stillness, and it is smart enough to make that the pitch. The fantasy side is present but held back; we get mood, scale and a hint of the world, not a full tour. That feels deliberate. You leave with the pairing, not the plot, ringing in your head.
The moment everyone will talk about
For me, it is the beat where the trailer shifts from Vinayakan’s glowering composure straight into Jayasurya’s unhinged response. It is a tiny cut, but it is the whole argument for the film in one shot: these two work because they cannot be the same kind of weird. Fans will replay that single moment more than any grand VFX tease.
Where Titans sits
For Jayasurya, this is the looser, crowd-pleasing detour before the heavy hitters. He still has Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer awaiting release, plus Mayan – Chapter 1 and Operation Tral on the way. Titans gives him room to be funny and massy while those bigger, darker films build their own momentum. For Vinayakan, it is another reminder of why this pairing has lasted: after Chathikkatha Chanthu, Iyobinte Pusthakam and the Aadu franchise, they have an easy shorthand that new teams cannot fake.
The honest verdict
Does it look worth the ticket? For this pair, yes. The trailer sells the reason to show up without over-explaining the mystery, and the October 22 date is close enough to keep the heat. The fantasy scale is still the wildcard, and I want to see more before calling it a total package — but as a fan-first promise of nutty mass cinema, Titans looks like the one.
