Udta Teer: the trailer. Video: Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment on YouTube.

I went into Udta Teer’s first full trailer with one question: can it be more than a collection of chaos? After watching, I have a better question: is this the exact kind of theatrical energy we’ve been missing? Because the film isn’t pretending to be restrained. This is a comedy-action-adventure with a capital C, and it seems perfectly fine letting Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan steer straight into the mess.

What is it? Udta Teer is a Hindi action-comedy from Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, directed by debutant Akash A Kaushik and scheduled for cinemas on October 9, 2026. Producers Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain are behind it. The ensemble is stacked: Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe all show up in the trailer. That’s a lot of actors, and the trailer uses them like a comedy relay race, handing off one gag or one crisis to the next.

What the trailer promises

The pitch is clear: a madcap ride built on comic set pieces, sudden action beats, and a sense that almost everyone on screen is in over their head. Ayushmann gets to be the wisecracking centre, Sara appears to match him beat for beat, and the older ensemble is not just decoration. It looks like the kind of film that wants the interval block to be a full-blown event, not a pause.

What it holds back

The trailer wisely does not reveal the actual plot engine. We get the vibe, the players and the tone, but not the reason the ‘udta teer’ of the title matters. For a first trailer, that’s the right instinct. You want the audience to buy the energy now and the story later. I’m hoping there is a real narrative under the noise, because this cast can do more than bounce off each other.

The moment everyone will talk about

For me, it is the generational collision. When Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Ram Kapoor and Rahul Bose are all in the same frame as the younger leads, the trailer feels less like a two-star vehicle and more like a full troupe doing controlled nonsense. That’s the moment fans will turn into memes: the old guard and the new guard all trapped in the same chaos.

Where this sits

For Ayushmann, Udta Teer adds another theatrical project to a slate that has always balanced crowd-pleasing comedy with riskier stories. For Sara, it returns her to the big screen in a comedy-led ensemble. For Dharma and Sikhya, this is another collaboration between mainstream scale and story-first production. For debutant director Akash A Kaushik, it is a high-stakes first film: big cast, big production, no small expectations.

Honest verdict

Does it look worth the ticket? Yes, if you want noise, jokes, action and a cast that looks happy to be together. I need one more trailer to be fully convinced the story has shape, but as a first signal, Udta Teer looks like a theatrical release that won’t be polite. I’ll be booking for the opening weekend.
