Maatrubhumi’s Jai Hind is a rousing tease, not a release date

Salman Khan's patriotic song Jai Hind from Maatrubhumi is here, but the film's release date is still missing. Here's what it promises and what it holds back.

I pressed play on the new Maatrubhumi song hoping for a release date to arrive with it. What I got instead was ‘Jai Hind’, a rousing patriotic cut that Salman Khan dropped on Dussehra with a very Salman caption: ‘2 days out of 365 days to show yr love, respect and patriotism for your mother land is not enough. Saal bhar hona mangta hai boss.’

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film stars Salman Khan and Chitrangada Singh. It was first announced as Battle of Galwan before it was renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace. The film was originally meant for April 2026, but that date came and went after reports that the Ministry of Defence and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had flagged concerns over its strongly anti-China stance. More recently, the film was cleared with an NOC. Trade chatter now points to late November or early December, but there is no official word yet.

That is the trick ‘Jai Hind’ plays. The song promises scale and sentiment: a chest-out, flags-up patriotic mood that tells you exactly what kind of theatre experience Maatrubhumi wants to be. What it holds back is the film itself. There is no scene-setting reveal, no shot of the antagonist, no real signal of how the Galwan-inspired drama will be handled. If you wanted proof of tone, this is a mood piece, not a trailer.

The one moment everyone will talk about is not in the edit. It is in the comments section, where fans have turned Salman’s post into a single repeated question: ‘Movie release kab ho rahi hai?’ That question is now doing as much work as the song.

For Salman Khan, ‘Jai Hind’ sits in a tricky middle zone. He is selling patriotic conviction while the film’s delays keep it in limbo, and a song like this can reheat the audience without committing to a date. For the studio, it is a low-risk way to keep Maatrubhumi in the conversation before the eventual announcement.

My honest verdict? ‘Jai Hind’ is strong enough to keep the film on my list, but it does not replace a real trailer. I need a date and a proper look at the drama. As a song, it is worth the replay. As a reason to queue at the ticket window, not yet.
