Netflix’s Malayalam shelf gets a three-way jolt this week. Between October 22 and 23, the platform adds a time-loop comedy, a 1980s-set action drama and a Tamil story about identity, so there is a different register for almost every movie night.
Dhoomakethu: the wedding day that will not end
Sudhi Maddison’s Malayalam comedy traps 36-year-old bachelor Kuttan in his own wedding day. Sajin Gopu plays a man whose marriage to Sharmila (Nikhila Vimal) turns into a nightmare when masked intruders kill him and abduct his bride. He wakes up on the same morning and, with a friend’s help, keeps trying to change what happens while uncovering a conspiracy connected to a rare comet. Ganapathi S. Poduval, Shine Tom Chacko and Sidharth Bharathan round out the cast. It streams from October 23.
The Paradise: Nani’s fight for a community
Srikanth Odela’s Telugu period action drama arrives with Malayalam audio. Set in 1980s Secunderabad, it follows Jadal (Nani), who fights to claim identity, rights and dignity for the marginalised Savaari community against powerful figures who have long oppressed his people. Mohan Babu, Raghav Juyal, Kayadu Lohar and Sonali Kulkarni feature, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. The film began streaming on October 22.
Dorothy: a Tamil drama about identity
Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy is a 1980s Tamil drama about childhood friends Karthi and Subbu, who grew up as henchmen under Subbu’s father. When Subbu shares her gender identity, her family rejects her and Karthi is ordered to end her life; the journey that follows forces him to confront his own feelings. Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth lead the cast. The Malayalam dub arrives alongside the original on October 23.
What to watch first
The pick depends on the mood you bring. Here is a quick cheat sheet:
- For a clever comedy: Dhoomakethu, if time loops and genre puzzles are your thing.
- For large-scale action: The Paradise, with Nani carrying Telugu mass energy in Malayalam audio.
- For emotional drama: Dorothy, if you want a character-driven story about identity and loyalty.
Since all three are on Netflix, a single subscription covers the whole range, which makes the weekend plan simple rather than another OTT scavenger hunt.
