What the numbers say

The table above covers seven Ravi Teja releases with a reported budget, gross and verdict. That sample yields a 43% hit rate and a 2.86 average multiple, on a reported total gross of ₹1,031.1 crore. The headline is not consistency; it is range. Three of the seven are blockbusters and three are flops, with one average verdict in between.

The wider filmography lists 78 films from a 1997 debut through 2026, including 22 releases in the last decade, and 1 award. This scorecard sticks to the recent run where figures are available. Ramarao on Duty, Gatta Kusthi, Changure Bangaru Raja, Eagle, Sundaram Master, Mass Jathara and Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi carry no complete multiple here, because Wikipedia lists no budget, no gross, or neither.

The hits and the misses

The biggest hit is Hanu-Man (2024), produced on a budget of ₹40.0 crore and grossing ₹298.0 crore for a 7.45 multiple and a blockbuster verdict. It is also the best multiple in the set.

The weakest return is Mr. Bachchan (2024), on a ₹70.0 crore budget against ₹10.0 crore gross, for a 0.14 multiple and a flop verdict. That gap — 7.45 to 0.14 in the same year — is the real scorecard. A mass hero can still spike, but the floor is equally dramatic.

The trend

The recent five reported average multiple is 3.04, against 2.42 for the five before them. So the underlying average is moving up, helped by Hanu-Man and Irumudi. But the misses are severe enough that the overall average still sits at 2.86.

The recent blockbusters — Dhamaka at 3.14, Hanu-Man at 7.45 and Irumudi at 6.25 — show that a ₹35 crore or ₹40 crore budget can return heavily. The flops — Ravanasura at 0.46, Tiger Nageswara Rao at 0.89 and Mr. Bachchan at 0.14 — struggled at higher or muddled budgets. The one average verdict, Waltair Veerayya at 1.69 on a ₹140 crore budget, shows that scale alone does not turn a big spend into a big multiple.

What it means for the next film and the industry

For Ravi Teja’s next film, the numbers suggest a clear template: a moderate budget with a direct mass-market hook. The 2026 release Irumudi is the freshest proof — ₹40.0 crore in, ₹250.0 crore out, a 6.25 multiple. That is not the time to lean into the ₹70.0 crore swing that produced Mr. Bachchan.

The trick will be interpreting the 43% hit rate honestly: there is an audience, but it does not reward every outing. A film with a clear commercial hook and controlled economics is the pattern that has paid; anything that inflates the budget without that hook has been punished.

For the industry, this is a reminder that a mass star’s audience can still deliver theatrical multiples when the financials are disciplined. The average multiple is healthy, but the record is volatile. Producers should read the range as strongly as the headline number.
