Rana Daggubati used the Halloween stage at HorrorCon India 2026 in New Delhi to reveal a new project that pairs a Telugu horror specialist with a Bollywood star. The film is called Scary Picture and it will star Kangana Ranaut.
Speaking at the convention, Rana said the title was being announced “here first” rather than through the Hindi press. He described director Ravi Babu as a friend who has made several Telugu horror films and confirmed that this is his first Hindi feature. Kangana later shared the announcement on Instagram.
What we know so far
The details are still early, but the central pieces are clear.
- Title: Scary Picture, a Hindi-language horror feature
- Producer: Rana Daggubati
- Director: Ravi Babu, in his first Hindi film
- Cast so far: Kangana Ranaut
- Status: Announced at HorrorCon; Rana’s production house has not yet made a formal announcement
Why the pairing stands out
Ravi Babu has built a career on unconventional Telugu cinema. The son of late actor Chalapathi Rao, he has acted since 1998 and directed since 2002, moving between coming-of-age stories, thrillers and slapstick-flavoured experiments. His 2023 film Adhugo placed a piglet at the centre of the story, and he recently directed Razor. His work tends to be remembered for its offbeat voice more than its box-office returns.
Kangana has not led a Hindi horror film since Raaz: The Mystery Continues in 2009. She returned to the genre with the Tamil horror comedy Chandramukhi 2 in 2023, and her recent Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata earned ₹8 crore worldwide with mixed reviews. She also reportedly has another horror project lined up in her Hollywood debut, Blessed Be The Evil. Scary Picture therefore resets a long gap and puts her opposite a director who rarely works with established names.
What to do while you wait
Until a release date is confirmed, treat this as a watchlist add rather than a calendar entry. If you want a sense of the tone, revisit Raaz: The Mystery Continues for Kangana’s earlier Hindi horror work and Chandramukhi 2 for her recent genre energy. Ravi Babu’s Telugu horror catalogue is the clearest preview of what he might bring to his first Hindi feature.
