Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark in India gross on its fifteenth day in cinemas, a milestone only a handful of Tamil films have reached. According to trade figures cited by ETV Bharat, the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel added an estimated Rs 4.25 crore net across languages on Thursday, 29 October. That takes its India net total to Rs 427.25 crore and its India gross to Rs 500.01 crore.

The film is still running across 8,938 shows nationally, with Tamil screenings contributing the largest share of the day’s business. For a sequel that arrived with huge expectations after 2023’s Jailer, this is the number that turns a strong run into a milestone. In box office reporting, India gross is the total ticket-counter collection before tax and distributor share, which is why it runs higher than the net figure.

The 500-crore club remains exclusive

In India gross terms, Jailer 2 now sits alongside 2.0, which reportedly finished around Rs 519 crore domestically. That is still a very short list for Tamil cinema. The worldwide picture puts the sequel’s momentum in sharper relief: trade figures put Jailer 2 at roughly Rs 755.50 crore globally, which means it has already moved past the lifetime global total of 2.0, reported at around Rs 691 crore.

The franchise now has two successive box office winners, and the second film has outrun a Rajinikanth blockbuster that was once considered one of Tamil cinema’s biggest on the worldwide stage.

The day-by-day shape of the run

The collection pattern tells a classic front-loaded theatrical story, with a strong opening and second weekend followed by a mid-week slide:

  • Opening day: Rs 59.70 crore
  • First week: Rs 334.35 crore
  • Day 9: Rs 14.50 crore
  • Second Saturday: Rs 24.15 crore
  • Second Sunday: Rs 25.70 crore
  • Day 12 (Monday): Rs 9.45 crore
  • Day 13 (Tuesday): Rs 8.30 crore
  • Day 14 (Wednesday): Rs 6.55 crore
  • Day 15 (Thursday): Rs 4.25 crore

Language-wise, the Indian net total remains overwhelmingly Tamil-led. The Tamil version has contributed Rs 295.94 crore net, Telugu Rs 81.43 crore, Hindi Rs 43.43 crore and Kannada Rs 6.45 crore. That split shows the film is still primarily a Tamil-language blockbuster that has found real support in Telugu but only modest traction in Hindi.

Why this matters for movie fans

A domestic gross of Rs 500 crore is not just a round number. It is a sign that the sequel has enough audience pull to sustain a long theatrical run, even after the initial fan rush has cooled. For fans of the first Jailer, it also confirms that Nelson Dilipkumar and Rajinikanth have built a franchise, not a one-off hit.

The next two weeks are the real test. The daily numbers have softened from the second Sunday’s Rs 25.70 crore, but the film is still holding thousands of shows nationwide. The main question is whether it can keep enough screens once the Diwali releases arrive.

The competition is coming fast

From 5 November, Ramayana: Part One will begin competing for screens, followed a day later by Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 on 6 November. That is a crowded festive window, and show counts are likely to shrink. If you have not caught Jailer 2 in a theatre yet, this weekend is the safer window before the big festive titles take over the premium screens.
